Hello! Welcome to my portfolio! :)

My name is Angelica Lee Carmody. I was born and raised in Whitestone, New York, a town in the borough of Queens. My interests include nutrition, playing sports, exercising, baking (not good when you have a sweet tooth!), drawing, dancing, and shopping. My favorite shows to watch on TV are anything on the food network (Diners, Drive ins, and Dives is my favorite show), and HBO documentaries. I just graduated from Queens College two months ago and am currently spending the majority of my time working as a dental assistant/medical biller. My job is interesting and has definitely influenced me to floss more often! I spend the other half of my time keeping up with my previous studies and taking Zumba classes to stay in shape.

Why I want to become a Dietitian....

My passion for nutrition started when I lost 40 pounds through diet and exercise.

My love for food however,
began at a very young age.

                 Before & After

My friends and family took notice of my weight loss and wanted me to give them tips on how I was able to do it. I loved being able to share information on how to become healthier. I provided my friends with pages and pages of information and soon realized that not only am I a nice person to be doing that, but I also could be getting paid for it!

My Queens College Experience

Queens College Jr. ADA Club
At Queens College, I was in charge of Public Relations and an active member of the Jr. ADA club. Being in charge of PR meant I had to find creative ways to promote our club events to the students and staff of my campus. As a member my role was to promote a healthy lifestyle to the students and staff of my campus. I also attended club meetings and helped to organize these events. The events I helped organize included walkathons, bake sales, and seminars.

To raise money for our club so that we could afford events we had a bake sale.

To promote exercise we held a walkathon on campus.

Some of the exciting things I got to do in my Queens College Classes..
I created this giant nutrition facts label when I had to teach my class how to properly read it and use it to make healthier choices while shopping. Having a passion for art has also helped me find creative ways to demonstrate projects.

Here are some photos of the food I prepared while taking a Science of Food course.

Hand rolled sushi!

                     ............. yummy!
Extracurricular Activities

Zog Sports

I played co-ed basketball and soccer for an organization called Zog Sports. When a team comes in first or second place, they donate money to the charity of your choice. I was captain/player of a basketball team that came in second place. Because of our standing, we were able to donate money to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

My team was called the Purple Elephants. (This is our attempt to look like purple elephants)

Goals
  • My Short term goal is to work in a clinical setting for a few years as a Registered Dietitian.
  • I want to one day write a book on tips to lose and maintain weight based on my own personal experience and education. Maybe one day I'll be able to have my own television show.. move over Rachael Ray!
  • I want to have many credential after my name so that I am very well-rounded in nutrition. RD, CDE, MS .. you name it.

Thank you for viewing my portfolio!
